The Application of English Language in Indonesia

Nowadays, Indonesia has been aware about the importance of english language. For the prove is you can see many english courses in Indonesia.

In the other way, we can say that english language had been a “lifestyle passport” in Indonesia. Quoted from marketing.co.id written that  EF (English First), one of english course in Indonesia did the reasearch about the phenomenon of using english language in 5 big cities at Indonesia. And the result said although 78% from the twitter nudge still hasn’t perfect in the section of gramatical, writing, punctuation, and abbreviation english language still selected by the citizen to express their feeling in social media.

This fact is quite interesting, looking from the case of position english isn’t the mother tounge of indonesian. English language has played the natural role in society as a tool of expession, because by using english people feel comfort at expessing things and fit the feeling and of course by using english you can get people state that you are trendy.

At this rate, expessing the good and right english considered as important things to fix social class and user extension. Meanwhile, other reasearch showed that the proffesional who has the ability in englih well can get income about 30%-50% higher compared to other with no english ability. About 42% Indonesian CEO claim that they need employees whom good at english.

Along with the development of Indonesia economy, estimated in 2030 Indonesia will need 113 million of labor whom proficient in english.

Sometimes at the time, other Indonesian citizen think that Indonesian who speak english isn’t nasionalistic whereas that isn’t true. Quoted from republika.co.id in 2013, marketing director of EF Ignatius Untung said that Indonesia is developing country so that still have to follow the international world that makes english as international language.

Untung also said that if indonesian children asked about their future dream, most of them said that they wanna be a doctor, teacher, pilot, and ect. All of those profession need to accompanied by the good english so that they can get improve.
